The Multi-crew Pilot License (MPL) program is a competency based approach to training and evaluation. MFC offers this program in partnership with CAE.
MPL programs assure excellence in aviation differently than traditional programs. Traditional programs mandate and prescribe a variety of training events and specific flying hour requirements.
MPL requires a demonstration of end level proficiency on a defined list of skills. Four distinct phases are mandated within MPL programs, which results in a training experience that assures competency in the skills essential for safe flight operations .The essential features of an MPL are the achievement of end level proficiency on all required phase of flight ICAO competencies, the integration of threat and error management principles, the training of multi-crew competencies from the beginning, and Aviation English Language ICAO Level 4 competencies.
MFC provides the training for Phase one and two over the course of 27 weeks. In phase one, students learn core flying skills and complete their first solo. In phase two, students will learn basic CPL/IFR skills and are introduced to two crew competencies. In phase three, students continue to develop their IFR skills and transition to flying a full flight simulator that represents a small business jet. In phase four, students learn their companies’ standards and operating procedures while learning to fly the airliner that they will be assigned to when they begin working for their airline. Students graduate from the program when they are able to complete three Transport Canada written examinations and a two-phase pilot proficiency check with Transport Canada.
Throughout the 27 weeks, students accumulate 80 hours of flight time including 12.5 hours of solo time in our Da40-180 G1000 aircraft. They also build over 100 hours in our Level 5 Da40-180 G1000 flight training device, and they will spend no less than 280 hours in a classroom environment.
